Explanation of the Idiom:
The idiom ‘hung the moon’ likely originated in rural America in the late 19th to early 20th century.
It paints a poetic picture as if the admired person performed an impossible, wondrous feat such as placing the moon in the night sky.
Over time, this idiom has broadened to apply to any person admired without reservation may be a parent, mentor, leader or even a celebrity.
The expression often carries a sense of innocent awe, suggesting the speaker overlooks flaws and focuses on an almost mythical perception of the person’s abilities or virtues.
