The TNPSC Group 1 Exam (also known as the Combined Civil Services Exam I (Group I Services) is conducted every year by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) to directly recruit eligible candidates for the post mentioned under the Group I services.

TNPSC Group 1 Exam 2025: Knowledge in Tamil
Candidates interested to apply for TNPSC Group 1 Exam 2025 should possess adequate knowledge in Tamil. It is mentioned in the TNPSC Group 1 Exam 2025 Official Notification PDF that the candidate shall be deemed to possess an adequate knowledge of Tamil if, he/she has passed the SSLC examination (10th) or its equivalent examination / HSC / Degree, etc., with Tamil as one of the languages or studied the High School Course in Tamil medium or passed the SSLC examination (10th) or its equivalent examination in Tamil medium or passed the Second Class Language Test (Full Test) in Tamil conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.

TNPSC Group 1 Exam 2025: Selection Process
The selection process for the TNPSC Group 1 Exam 2025 will have three stages of exams for the posts under the Group 1 services:
- TNPSC Group 1 Prelims Exam 2025
- TNPSC Group 1 Mains Exam 2025
- TNPSC Group 1 Interview 2025
The TNPSC Group 1 Prelims Exam 2025 is a screening test that is scheduled to be held on 15 June 2025 at various TNPSC Group 1 Exam centres 2025 across Tamil Nadu. Candidates who clear the TNPSC Group 1 Prelims Exam 2025 will qualify for the TNPSC Group 1 Mains Exam. The number of candidates to be admitted to the TNPSC Group 1 Mains Exam 2025 will be 20 times the number of candidates to be recruited through the TNPSC Group 1 Exam 2025.
The TNPSC Group 1 Interview 2025 will carry 100 marks with no minimum qualifying marks.
The TNPSC Group 1 Mains Exam 2025 consists of four papers of descriptive type. Paper I of the TNSPC Group 1 Mains Exam 2025 will be qualifying in nature. Marks obtained by the candidates in Paper II, Paper III and Paper IV of the TNPSC Group 1 Mains Exam 2025 and marks obtained in the TNPSC Group 1 Interview 2025 will be considered for the merit list or TNPSC Group 1 Final Rank 2025.
TNPSC Group 1 Exam 2025: Prelims Exam Pattern
The TNPSC Group 1 Prelims Exam 2025 will be a single Objective type paper conducted through the OMR method. It consists of two sections — General Studies (Degree Standard) and Aptitude and Mental Aptitude (SSLC Standard).
The General Studies section consists of 175 questions and the Aptitude and Mental Ability section consists of 25 questions. This TNPSC Group 1 Prelims Exam 2025 will be conducted for a total duration of 3 hours.

TNPSC Group 1 Exam 2025: Mains Exam Pattern
The TNPSC Group 1 Mains Exam 2025 will be conducted for candidates who have cleared the TNPSC Group 1 Prelims Exam 2025.
The TNPSC Group 1 Mains Exam 2025 will be held for four papers:
- Paper I – Tamil Eligibility Test (SSLC Standard)
- Paper II – General Studies I (Degree Standard)
- Paper III – General Studies II (Degree Standard)
- Paper IV – General Studies III (Degree Standard)
The TNPSC Group 1 Mains Exam 2025 Answer sheets for Paper II, Paper III and Paper IV will be evaluated only if the candidates secure minimum qualifying marks in Paper I (Tamil Eligibility Test).
Paper I is the Tamil Eligibility Test which is conducted for a total of 100 marks for a duration of 3 hours. Paper I of the TNPSC Group 1 Mains Exam 2025 is qualifying in nature.
