The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) officially announced the RRB ALP Exam 2025 Official Recruitment Notification on 10 April 2025 on the RRB website. This RRB ALP Exam 2025 is conducted for the direct recruitment of 9900+ Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) vacancies in the various zones and regions of the Indian Railways.

RRB ALP CBT 1 Exam 2025: Exam Pattern

The RRB ALP CBT 1 Exam or the First Stage CBT of the RRB ALP Exam 2025 is a screening exam. This stage is conducted to shortlist eligible candidates for the Second Stage CBT or the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam based on their normalised marks and merit.

This First Stage of CBT or the RRB ALP CBT 1 Exam is an online exam that is conducted for a total of 75 marks. Candidates have to complete answering 75 questions in the RRB ALP CBT 1 Exam within 60 minutes.

The marks scored in RRB ALP CBT 1 or the First Stage of CBT in ALP will not be counted while preparing the final panel. The RRB ALP CBT 1 Syllabus 2025 incudes 4 subjects: Mathematics, Mental Ability, General Science and General Awareness.

It is to be noted by the RRB ALP Exam 2025 candidates that the standard of questions for the RRB ALP CBT 1 Exam will generally be infirmity with the educational standards and minimum technical qualifications prescribed for the Assistant Loco Pilot post, i.e. Questions will be of Class 10 (10th standard). Questions in the RRB ALP CBT 1 Exam 2025 will be objective type questions with multiple choice answers.

There will be a negative marking of 1/3rd marks for each wrong answer in RRB ALP CBT 1 Exam 2025. There will also be normalisation of marks in the RRB ALP CBT 1 Exam held in multiple shifts.

The minimum pass percentage for eligibility is 40 per cent for UR & EWS, 30 per cent for OBC (NCL), 30 per cent for SC and 25 % for ST candidates as mentioned in the RRB ALP Exam 2025 Official Notification PDF. This minimum pass percentage is also applicable to Ex Servicemen candidates as per their community.

RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025: Exam Pattern

The RRB ALP 2025 Second Stage CBT Exam or the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam is also an online exam. Candidates who clear the RRB ALP CBT 1 Exam 2025 will be shortlisted for the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025.

This second stage of the CBT Exam or the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025 consists of two parts: Part A and Part B.

Part A of the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025 consists of 3 major subjects. It consists of Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning and Basic Science & Engineering. Part B of the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025 is only a qualifying test in nature. The RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam will have questions from the various trade syllabus.

The total duration of the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025 will be 2 hours and 30 minutes. It will consist of a total of 175 questions and for a total of 175 marks. Here, Part A of the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025 will be conducted for a total of 100 questions for 90 minutes and Part B will be conducted for a total of 75 questions for a duration of 60 minutes.

There will be negative marking of 1/3rd marks for each wrong answer in the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025. There will also be normalisation of marks done for RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025 held in multiple shifts.

The minimum pass percentage in Part A of the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025 for eligibility will be 40 per cent for UR & EWS, 30 per cent for OBC (NCL), 30 per cent for SC and 25 percent for ST candidates. This minimum pass percentage is also applicable for Ex-Servicemen category candidates as per their community.

Candidates should note that only the marks scored in Part A of the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025 will be counted for shortlisting of candidates for further stages of the RRB ALP Exam Selection Process 2025 provided the candidate irrespective of community is able to secure qualifying marks (35 per cent) in Part B of the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025.

RRB ALP Exam 2025 : Computer-based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

The RRB ALP CBAT Exam 2025 is a Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) designed to assess candidates' mental abilities, psychometric skills, decision-making abilities and to identify their strengths for the Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) posts in the Indian Railways.

This RRB ALP CBAT Exam 2025 is qualifying in nature, meaning candidates must meet the required standard but no negative marks are deducted for wrong answers.

To qualify in this RRB ALP CBAT Exam 2025, candidates must secure a minimum of 42 marks in each of the five tests, each of which comes with a specific time limit.

Candidates equal to 8 times the number of ALP vacancies for each notified community or category will be shortlisted for CBAT based on the candidates’ score in Part A of the RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025. The CBAT will be only in English and Hindi. There will also be no negative marking in the RRB ALP CBAT Exam 2025.
