RRB ALP Exam 2025

RRB Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) Exam is conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) to recruit eligible candidates for the posts of Assistant Loco Pilots (ALP) in the Indian Railways for various Railways Zones across India. An Indicative Notice for the recruitment of Assistant Loco Pilots through the RRB ALP Exam in the Employment News was officially announced on 29 March 2025 by the Railway Recruitment Board.

The RRB has invited applications from eligible candidates for the RRB ALP Exam 2025 for a total of 9970+ RRB ALP vacancies for various RRBs and Railways Zones in the Indian Railways. Online applications for the RRB ALP Exam 2025 must be submitted only through ONLINE mode from 12 April 2025 to 11 May 2025 on the official RRB website.

RRB ALP Exam 2025: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for the RRB ALP Exam 2025 must be a citizen of India (or) a subject of Nepal (or) a subject of Bhutan (or) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India (or) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

RRB ALP Exam 2025: Educational Qualification

Candidates who submit their online application for the RRB ALP Exam 2025 must possess the following minimum educational qualification as mentioned in the RRB ALP Exam 2025 Official Notification PDF.

The official date for determining the eligibility of candidates with respect to educational or technical qualification from a recognised institute or university for the RRB ALP Exam 2025 shall be 1 July 2025 according to the RRB ALP Exam 2025 Official Notification PDF.

It was specified in the previous RRB ALP Exam Official Notification that candidates who were awaiting the final results of their final examination of the prescribed educational or technical qualification are advised not to apply for this RRB ALP Exam.

RRB ALP Exam 2025: Age Limit

Interested candidates who are applying for the RRB ALP Exam 2025 for the recruitment of Assistant Loco Pilots (ALP) in the Indian Railways should be between 18 years and 30 years as mentioned in the RRB ALP Exam 2025 Official Notification PDF.

The official cut-off date for determining the eligibility of all candidates to apply for the RRB ALP Exam 2025 with respect to age limit in every respect shall be 1 July 2025.

The upper limit of date of birth for UR (General) & EWS candidates is 2 July 2995. Meanwhile the upper limit of date of birth for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates is 2 July 2992. The upper limit of date of birth for SC & ST candidates is 2 July 1990.

The lower limit of date of birth for all candidates will be 1 July 2027.

RRB ALP Exam 2025: Application Fee

RRB ALP Exam 2025: Selection Process

The Railway Recruitment Board announced the RRB ALP Exam 2025 Official Notification on 11 April 2025 for a total of 9970+ RRB ALP vacancies for the various Railway Zones and RRBs. It is to be noted that candidates applying for the RRB ALP Exam 2025 can apply to only one RRB and only one ONLINE RRB ALP exam application has to be submitted.

The selection process for the RRB ALP Exam 2025 will consist of the following five phases:

1. RRB ALP CBT 1 (First Stage CBT)
2. RRB ALP CBT 2 (Second Stage CBT)
3. RRB ALP Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
4. RRB ALP Document Verification (DV)
5. RRB ALP Medical Examination (ME)

RRB ALP Exam 2025: Physical and Medical Requirement

Candidates planning to apply for the RRB ALP Exam 2025 has to note that they are fir both medically and physically. The candidates who will be called for the RRB ALP Document Verification will have to pass requisite medical fitness tests conducted by the Railways Administration to ensure that they are physically fir to carry out the duties connected with the Assistant Loco Pilot post. It is mentioned in the RRB ALP Exam 2025 Official Notification that candidates who have undergone Lasik Surgery or any other surgical procedure to correct refractive error, are not eligible to the post of Assistant Loco Pilot in the Indian Railways.

RRB ALP Exam 2025: Exam Pattern

RRB ALP Exam 2025 consists of a stringent selection process for the recruitment of Assistant Loco Pilots for 9970+ vacancies in the Indian Railways. RRB ALP Exam 2025: CBT 1 Exam Pattern

The First Stage CBT / CBT 1 Exam of the RRB ALP Exam 2025 is a screening exam to shortlist eligible candidates for Second stage CBT / CBT 2 Exam. The First Stage of CBT / CBT 1 Exam will be conducted in an online mode for a total of 75 marks. There will be 75 questions in this CBT 1 Exam which the candidates have to complete within 60 minutes / 1 hour.

Candidates will get 1 mark for each correct answer. There is negative marking in the first stage of CBT in the RRB ALP Exam 2025. Each incorrect answer in the CBT 1 Exam of the RRB ALP 2025 will receive a negative marking of 1/3rd of the marks.

RRB ALP Exam 2025: CBT 2 Exam Pattern

RRB ALP 2025 Second Stage CBT Exam / CBT 2 Exam will also be conducted in an online mode. The total duration of the second stage CBT / CBT 2 Exam of the RRB ALP Exam 2025 will be 2 hours 30 minutes / 150 minutes. There will be a total of 175 questions.

This RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam 2025 consists of two parts: Part A and Part B.

Candidates will have 90 minutes to answer 100 questions in Part A of the CBT 2 Exam. They will have 60 minutes to answer 75 questions in Part B of the CBT 2 Exam.

There will be negative marking of 1/3rd marks for each incorrect answer.

It has to be noted that only the marks scored in Part A of the CBT 2 Exam will be counted for shortlisting of candidates to the further stages of the RRB ALP Exam 2025 Selection Process provided that candidate is able to secure qualifying marks (i.e. 35 percent of marks) in Part B (irrespective of their community).

Part B of the CBT 2 Exam is only a qualifying test in nature and shall have questions from the various trade syllabus.

RRB ALP Exam 2025: CBAT Exam Pattern

Candidates who clear the CBT 2 Exam will be called for third stage of the RRB ALP Exam Selection Process 2025, i.e. Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT). There shall be no negative marking in the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT). The CBAT will be conducted only in English and Hindi and it is mandatory for the candidates to clear each battery test / section of the CBAT separately to qualify for the next stage.

All candidates irrespective of their community must secure a minimum T-score of 42 marks in each battery test separately to qualify in the CBAT.

RRB ALP Exam 2025: Admit Card

Candidates who online applications are submitted successfully will be issued with the RRB ALP 2025 Exam for the First Stage of CBT / CBT 1 when it is issued by the Railway Recruitment Board ((RRB) before the exam date of the RRB ALP CBT 1 Exam.
