UPSC Vacancy 2026

The number of UPSC Vacancy 2026 for various civil services and posts like IAS, IFS, IPS and other central services was officially announced in the UPSC CSE Recruitment 2026 Notification PDF on 4 February 2026 by the Union Public Service Commission. Interested and eligible applicants for the UPSC CSE Recruitment 2026 for the recruitment to the various civil service posts such as IAS, IPS, IFS and various other central services posts should fulfill the following eligibility criteria to apply online for the UPSC CSE Selection Process in 2026.

UPSC CSE Nationality 2026

Candidates applying for the UPSC CSE Exam 2026 for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) must be a citizen of India.

For other services, a candidates must either be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1 Jan 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burm, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with intention of permanently settling in India.

UPSC CSE Age Limit 2026

Candidates interested to apply for the 933 UPSC CSE vacancies through the UPSC CSE Recruitment 2026 Selection Process must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years as on the cut-off date.

Candidates must be within the ages of 21 years and 32 years as mentioned in the UPSC CSE Recruitment 2026 Notification PDF.

The cut-off date to determine the candidate’s age eligibility for the UPSC CSE Exam 2026 with respect to minimum and maximum age limit will be 1 August 2026.

UPSC CSE Educational Qualification 2026

Candidates interested to apply for the UPSC CSE 2026 must have the following minimum educational qualification as mentioned in the UPSC CSE 2026 Recruitment Notification PDF for the direct recruitment of 933 vacancies in various central services and posts.

Candidates must hold a graduate degree from a recognised university (including professional / technical degrees) or possess an equivalent qualification.

The graduate degree must be from universities or institutions recognized under UGC Act, 1956.

UPSC CSE Number of Attempts

Eligible candidates applying for the UPSC CSE shall be permitted six attempts at the CSE. UPSC has permitted relaxation in the number of UPSC CSE attempts for SC/ST/OBC and PwBD category candidates.

There is no restriction for the number of attempts for SC/ST candidates. Candidates belonging to the OBC (NCL) category will be allowed 9 attempts and PwBD (General/EWS/OBC) candidates will be allowed 9 attempts. Candidates belonging to PwBD (SC/ST) category will not be restricted through the number of attempts for the UPSC CSE.

The UPSC CSE Prelims Exam 2026 will be an objective-type screening stage consisting of two papers: Paper I (General Studies) and Paper II (CSAT). Candidates who qualify the UPSC CSE Prelims 2026 will be called to attend the UPSC CSE Mains Exam 2026.

The UPSC CSE Mains Exam 2026 will be a descriptive type of exam consist of nine papers: Essay paper, four GS papers, two optional subject papers and two qualifying language papers.

Candidates who clear the UPSC CSE Mains Exam 2026 will be called for the UPSC CSE Interview 2026.

Candidates will be selected to the UPSC CSE Final Merit List based on the marks scored by the in UPSC CSE Mains Exam 2026 and UPSC CSE Interview 2026.

UPSC Prelims Exam Pattern 2026

The UPSC Prelims Exam 2026 will comprise of two papers of 200 marks each. It will be an objective type exam. The exam duration will be two hours for each paper.

The two papers in the UPSC Prelims Exam 2026 are: General Studies and CSAT Exam.

The CSAT Paper II will be a qualifying Paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33 per cent (66 marks).

There will be a negative marking of 1/3 of the marks assigned to that question for every wrong answer.

Only marks scored in the UPSC Prelims GS Paper will be considered towards the UPSC CSE Prelims Cut Off 2026.
