The Supreme Court Law Clerk Exam 2026 will consist of Part I and Part II selection processes and will be conducted on the same day in two sessions. Part I: Supreme Court Law Clerk Exam 2026 shall be conducted by OMR sheets or in online/hybrid mode as specified by the Chief Justice. Part II: Supreme Court Law Clerk Subjective Written Exam will also be conducted in physical mode/pen-paper model/online/hybrid mode.

Part I Exam will consist of 100 MCQ questions and will be conducted for a total of 100 marks. The time duration for the Part I Exam 2026 will be 150 minutes or 2.5 hours.

It will consist of the following questions: (a) A reading comprehension passage in English, followed by objective type related questions on the passage, (b) objective analytical questions, testing the candidates’ ability to understand and apply law, including the Constitution of India, CrPC, CPC, IPC, Indian Evidence Act and Contract Act and (c) Objective type questions on recent developments in law and jurisprudence in the last one year.

There will a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

Part II of the Recruitment will be conducted for a time duration of 210 minutes or 3.5 hours. This will be conducted for a total of 300 marks.

Candidates need to obtain minimum qualifying marks of 40 per cent or such cut-off as may be specified in Part I. If candidates fail to score the cut-off in Part I, the Exam Board will not access the answer sheets for Part II.

Candidates will be selected for the next phase of interview process based on the combined marks scored by them in the Part I and Part II of the Recruitment Process.

The candidates who qualify for the Supreme Court Law Clerk Interview 2026 will be asked to submit a preference list of the Judges’ Offices in a sequence of their choice under whom they intend to work.

The Registry will conduct an interview for 150 marks with a cut-off of at least 50 per cent to select candidates for the Reserve Pool of Qualified candidates.

The selected candidates at the Residential offices along with the candidates shortlisted in the Reserve Pool shall be given an engagement as Law Clerks subject to condition that they provide references of two responsible persons, including faculty members who have taught the candidate, before taking up the engagement as Law Clerk.
